A multi-objective optimization model to plan city-scale water systems with economic and environmental objectives: A case study in santiago, Chile

Climate Change and its effects in water scarcity has become an important challenge for cities with management problems. These problems require integral planning of the city, which can be supported by optimization. The main goal research is to provide a regional optimization model networks, including new treatment options. formulated as multi-objective mixed-integer programming problem, focused on environmental economic impact network, minimizing extracted from natural sources total cost. formulation developed goal-programming methodology. covers complete existing city-scale 4 different options reuse within city: drinking water, fresh irrigation, discharge courses. case study Santiago, capital Chile, political, economic, institutional center Chile. If both objective functions have equal importance configure solution, following ideas characterize optimal network: (i) it more environmentally economically convenient network rather than recycling source; (ii) preferred form irrigation qualities industrial reduce transport costs, (iii) modification current plants preferred, because high cost installation plants.
